Presently, our school has a total of 8 classrooms and students all ranging from Year 1 to Year 8. Our senior classes (Year 4- 8) are one-to-one with electronic devices, such as Chromebooks and Ipads. We are a Google School, and use such portals as Seesaw to present work.

PB4L: We are a PB4L (Positive Behaviour for Learning) School

Lunchtime Clubs: At Lunchtimes we have activities on various days - Gymnastics, Lego Club, Enviro Group, Gardening Club, Upcycling Club and Card Making

Student Council: Classes elect two student counselors which attend a weekly meeting and give a voice to the students in how things are going and needs.

Kapahaka: We have a Junior and Senior Kapa Haka group

Showquest: Every year St Mary's enters the Regional Showquest as part of our Arts Curriculum

Parents must inform the school office before 9.00am if their child is going to be away from school.

ATTENDANCE DUES

Attendance Dues for the Catholic Schools in the Hamilton Diocese are $444.00 (incl GST) per year, (i.e. $110 per term or $8.54 per week) plus an optional $40 Catholic Character donation.

This is payable to the Catholic Diocese of Hamilton (it is not through our school). These forms will be included in your child's enrolment pack.

You can either pay the full amount or set up an automatic payment of $8.54 per week for 52 weeks.

Assistance is always available for families needing help with Attendance Dues. Please contact our school office for more information about full or partial rebates.

ORAL LANGUAGE PROGRAMME

At St Mary's we provide an Oral Language Programme for 4 year olds. Parents are invited to be a part of the learning journey as their children prepare for their schooling years at St Mary's. Every 2nd Tuesday the programme is held in Room 1 and led by Mrs Karen McChlery (New Entrant/Year 1 Teacher).

PLAYBASED LEARNING

Playbased learning occurs from 9.10 - 10.15am in our Junior school - Rooms 1 and 2. Room 3 join us on a Friday morning to learn, discover and play.

Our play-based approach endeavours to involve both child initiated and teacher supported learning.

We, the teachers, encourage children’s learning and inquiry through interactions that aim to stretch their thinking to higher levels.

We also aim to bring the child’s awareness towards mathematics, science and literacy concepts, allowing them to engage with such concepts through hands-on learning.
